Info...

Ashford United F.C. are an English football club based in Ashford, Kent. The 'new' United was formed in 2011 (resurrecting a name used by the town's football

club around the advent of the twentieth century). Between 1930 and 2010 the town was represented by Ashford Town FC, before it ultimately went into

administration.

The current club is therefore a 'phoenix club', rising from the ashes of financial ruin of its predecessor and although not a supporter owned club continues,

like most non-league clubs, through the contributions of volunteers and supporters.

Ashford United are currently members (2014–15) of the Southern Counties East Football League and have finished second in this league in the previous two

seasons - ultimately losing out to Whyteleafe and Phoenix Sports respectively. For the 2015-16 season the 'Nuts & Bolts' entered a new era following the

installation of a synthetic 3G pitch at their homeground of 'The Homelands'.

Ground...

Ashford have played at the Homelands Stadium since it was built in 1989 - returning to the town after a two year-ground share at Folkestone.

The record attendance at the ground is 3,363 for a match against Fulham in the first round of the 1994–95 FA Cup.

Several teams have ground-shared at the Homelands: In 2004 Conference South club Margate spent a season sharing the ground while they tried to bring their Hartsdown Park stadium up to standard; from 2009 Maidstone United played at the stadium for two seasons whilst their James Whatman Way ground was

built; from 2014 Canterbury City commenced a groundshare arrangement. They were without their own home ground and had previously been tenants at

Herne Bay.

Over the years the poor drainage and wear of the pitch at the Homelands had caused matches to be postponed. At the conclusion of the 2014-15 season

the club began installing a new state of the art synthetic 3G pitch of a FIFA 2 rated standard for use the following season - albeit construction was delayed

and it wasn't available until shortly after the commencemnt of the 2015-16 season.

The opportunity to capitalise on this facility was taken swiftly it was announced that local Sunday league side Kennington F.C. would be renting the pitch

during winter months & the local 6-a-side league would also be using it on Thursday nights.
